Hays Travel is to offer its own in-house apprentice scheme.
The agency has got the backing of the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), which oversees apprenticeships in England, and is now the first travel employer to offer a full BTEC apprenticeship in travel.
Said Hays Travel training manager Katie Woods-Ruddick: “This is a massive achievement for us and a great move forward for the company. We really believe that this will enhance our employees’ learning and development and will also give us complete control.
“As a company we have a long track record of taking young people from school or college and employing them as apprentices. Whilst we have used external partners in the past to deliver the training, we feel that as the company has grown the natural progression was to bring the programme in house.
The apprenticeship means that Hays has expanded its training team.
Regional director at NAS John Wayman said: “The organisation has an excellent long term view of staff recruitment and workforce development by enhancing the skills of its current and future workforce via apprenticeships.
“Hays is one of a growing number of organisations which see the positive impact that apprenticeships can have on service delivery and customer satisfaction. I am certain that the further development of their apprenticeship programme will help Hays to remain at the forefront of its industry."
Hays trainees will receive their qualifications via a link up with Pearson Work based learning.
Its managing director Trevor Luker said: “This is a significant development for Pearson Work Based Learning because Hays Travel is the first travel employer to offer a full BTEC Apprenticeship in travel.”
