Helen Hayes at Vacations & Travel resigns

The Editor-in-Chief of Vacations & Travel Magazine, Helen Hayes, has resigned her position, after seven years in the role, with Helen saying, “I have young children and have decided to dedicate more of my time to being a mother.” She added, “It has become progressively harder to juggle the demands of a very successful magazine with the demands of busy children”.

“I took over as editor of Vacations & Travel Magazine in February 2000, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the role, with when I first started, the magazine having 116 pages, and now it has blossomed into a globally-recognised travel magazine, with over 300 pages in each issue.”

“I will continue to have a relationship with Vacations & Travel Magazine, becoming a consulting editor and helping out when needed and I wish to thank Anthony Gallagher for his support over the years and wish him and the team all the best.”

Anthony Gallagher the publisher of the magazine said, “Helen has shown a phenomenal passion and dedication to the job and has played a big part in the magazine’s success.”  “She will be hard to replace but I admire her decision to step back and spend more time with her family.”

Helen will continue in the role until July, with her final issue being the July/August/September edition.

She concluded, “Thanks to all the writers, public relations people and advertisers that I have worked with on the magazine. It has been a very great pleasure.”

At the same time, Vacations & Travel Magazine has advertised the role seeking an Editor with possess passion, grit and relishing hard work whilst thriving on deadlines.  The successful candidate must also have exceptional time management and organisational skills, the ability to work both autonomously and effectively within a small team, well-travelled with excellent knowledge of Australian and international tourism industries, extremely capable writer with magazine, website subbing, proofing and photo editing experience.

They should have also have a degree in journalism or at least five years’ editing experience, must be willing to travel to domestic and international destinations and attend out-of-office hours functions, flexible, outgoing, and willing to develop a social persona within a professional environment.

Sounds good and the package is $55K package.

Vacations & Travel says that they are Australia’s longest-running and most respected travel magazine, this position offers an excellent platform for the right applicant to become a new and authoritative voice in travel.
