Here’s a new reason go to Liberia: surfing
No one’s kidding when they say Liberia is not only catching waves, it is drawing interest from a new group of sporting activists.
“Some are touting Liberia as one of the world’s last undiscovered surfing destinations,” says CNN, referring to its undisturbed coastline.
Word of the uninterrupted surf is starting to filter through to tourists and some are heading to Liberia’s beaches, adds the site.
One reason for its popularity: it is far less crowded from parts of Australia and Indonesia.
But Liberia is a long way from being a mass-tourism destination. A tourism boon appears far away in a country that is struggling to rid itself of its war-torn reputation.
Travel obsevers believe it will be a while before there is a tourism boom in a country which is trying hard to rid itself of its reputation as a war-torn nation.
The US State Department urges citizens to "exercise caution when traveling in Liberia," while Britain’s Foreign Office advises against "all but essential travel to all areas of Liberia outside the capital, Monrovia."
Both warn that crime is high, especially after dark.
