Heritage Resorts & Golf in Bel Ombre, Mauritius has launched the ‘Heritage Marine Education Centre’.
An initiative in collaboration with NGO Reef Conservation, it aims to educate guests staying at Heritage Le Telfair, Heritage Awali and Heritage The Villas about the marine and coastal ecosystems in Mauritius.
In addition, on-site marine biologists will focus on the regeneration of seagrass and coral reef ecosystems through scientific research, education, and community involvement.
The centre will feature interactive exhibits on lagoon biodiversity, coral reefs, seagrass beds and coastal forests.
Marine biologists, Anouska Geerowar and Pourani Chinapian, will share their knowledge of these unique ecosystems.
They will conduct beach walks and guided outings at sea to highlight the conservation work being done in the region.
Raoul Maurel, COO of Heritage Resorts & Golf, states: “By offering scientist-led exhibits and conservation activities, it deepens our guests’ appreciation of the marine ecosystems that need protection.”
Rogers Hospitality’s Chief Brand & Communication Officer and Sustainability Leader, Axelle Mazery, added :“Protecting these vital ecosystems is essential, as pollution from land ultimately affects our oceans and marine life. At Rogers Hospitality, we recognize our role in marine education.
“This is in line with our ‘Now For Tomorrow’ sustainability programme, which focuses on responsible hospitality and conservation efforts.”
One of the key areas the Heritage Marine Education Centre is community involvement.
The centre will serve as an essential educational hub for both guests and the local community.
Through tailor-made programmes and partnerships with local schools and organisations, the hotel group aims to foster a deep sense of environmental responsibility in the community.
