High Court challenge to airport expansion starts
Residents’ groups and local authorities will today come together in a High Court challenge to the proposed expansion of airports in the south east of the UK.
The groups are set to challenge the Government’s White Paper on Aviation, published by Alistair Darling in 2003.
The White Paper, which is aimed at providing for a large increase in air traffic in the coming decades, includes proposals for new runways at Stansted and Heathrow airports plus expansion at Luton.
But, according to Sky News, residents groups along with representatives from Wandsworth and Hillingdon Borough Councils and authorities in Essex and Hertfordshire will today launch the first-ever High Court challenge to a White Paper.
The website states that they will claim they have not been consulted, and that they have been deprived of information.
Government lawyers will reportedly argue that proper procedures have been followed.
