High risk, elderly passengers warned not to cruise, even if vaccinated

Saturday, 23 Aug, 2021 0

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning older travelers and those vulnerable to severe illness to avoid cruise vacations.

It recommends they avoid cruise ships, even if fully vaccinated.

The new CDC guidance relates to older adults, pregnant women and those with certain high risk conditions.

The CDC had previously recommended only non-vaccinated travelers to avoid cruises.

The change was spurred by the spread of the Delta variant.

The US reported nearly one million cases in the past week.

It rates the risk of infection as ‘high’ in the enclosed spaces of a cruise ship.

Under CDC protocols, cruise ships are approved to sail if they have at least 95% of passengers and crew vaccinated.
