Hilton expands Malaysia footprint
Hilton Worldwide is expanding in Malaysia with the signing of a new hotel for Penang.
The company will add to its existing pipeline of five hotels in the country with the new DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang, due for a 2016 opening.
The hotel is located at the Batu Ferringhi beach strip, north of Georgetown and the former Hydro Majestic Hotel building will undergo an extensive refurbishment prior to opening.
The resort will house 318 rooms, three restaurants, a lobby bar, a ballroom, function rooms and fitness centre.
"We are very pleased to be working with a well-respected partner such as Pinnacle Nexus to introduce the DoubleTree by Hilton brand to Penang. The signing of this agreement underscores our commitment to developing Hilton Worldwide’s portfolio of brands in Malaysia," said Andrew Clough, senior vice president of development, Middle East & Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide.
"DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang will be a tremendous addition to the brand’s rapidly-expanding global portfolio across six continents."
The Penang hotel will become the third DoubleTree hotel in Malaysia following openings in capital Kuala Lumpur and in Johor Bahru.
