Holiday on Brando’s island
Holidaymakers may in future be able to follow in the footsteps of screen idol Marlon Brando, by staying on the island owned by the late actor. A 30-bungalow resort is set to open in 2008 on Tetiaroa, in French Polynesia. Brando bought the island in 1965 and famously used to lie on the beach and marvel at the night sky. The only current inhabitant is Brando’s son, Teihotu, one of his children with ex-wife Tarita Teriipia. The $40 million project will be on a 150-acre site which currently has no electricity or running water. No prices have been set for a stay at the island, but the bungalows will be targeted at rich and famous people who wish to escape from the limelight.
