Holland America’s Australian odyssey

SYDNEY – Holland America Line’s ms Volendam will undertake a circumnavigation cruise of Australia in March next year.

Departing Sydney on March 14, the mid-sized cruise liner will call at ports including Newcastle and Batemans Bay (NSW); Port Arthur and Hobart in Tasmania; Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin, Esperance, Albany, Fremantle, Geraldton and Exmouth.

In Queensland, Volendam, which has room for 1,432 passengers, will visit Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

In addition, the cruise will visit Komodo Island, Indonesia, before returning to Sydney on April 17.

There will be overnight stopovers in Hobart, Fremantle and Sydney.

A highlight will be a two-day Great Barrier Reef daylight scenic cruise experience through Torres Strait and the Far North Region before anchoring for an overnight at Sherrard Island and enjoying sunset at Lizard Island.

Fares for the 34-night Volendam 2010 Australia Circumnavigation Cruise are priced from A$5,998.
