Honduras cited as model for sustainable development

The worldwide model for sustainable tourism: Honduras.

Who says? Lelei LeLaulu, president of Counterpart International.

He cited the Scientific, Academic, Volunteer and Educational (SAVE) program designed to grow tourism revenues while conserving the country’s environment and heritage as a model for others.

The SAVE program is also designed to create wealth for rural communities.

Mr LeLaulu said the SAVE program is already being studied by other countries as a planning model to ensure their entry into tourism is accompanied by protection of natural resources.

“The SAVE program, designed by the Honduras Institute of Tourism under the guidance of Eva Carolina Gomez, Kenia Lima Zapata and Minister of Tourism Thierry Pierrefeu, is one of the best designed and executed initiatives well worth replicating, LeLaulu believes,” wrote the Caribbean Travel News.
