Hong Kong Airlines sued by lessor
The problems continue to mount for troubled carrier Hong Kong Airlines.
The airline was served with a lawsuit from Ireland based leasing firm Awas Leasing One LLC for non-payment of nearly $3 million for two Airbus planes.
Awas also claimed in the suit HK Airlines failed to comply with a notice to ground the planes from December 20 die to the unpaid fees.
The airline signed leases for the aircraft on April 22, 2016.
Awas is seeking repayment and interest, and an injunction in respect of the non-compliance.
The carrier is also being sued by another lessor and only narrowly avoided being grounded by Hong Kong’s Air Transport Licensing Authority over concerns about its financial health.
The airline is controlled by the heavily indebted Chinese conglomerate HNA Group.
The airline’s troubles began well before the long running anti-government protests in Hong Kong, but the resulting sharp downturn in business and leisure travellers to Hong Kong has made its position even bleaker.
