Hotel booking app signs up major hospitality brands
Mobile app HotelTonight has signed up 10 hotel brands for its last minute booking service.
The San Francisco based startup which launched in 2011, has agreed deals with brands such as Hyatt Hotels, Best Western and InterContinental to feature properties on its mobile-only booking interface.
The smartphone app allows users to book rooms at the last minute for same day check-in often at large discounts of up to 70% on published rates.
This is the first time the company has worked with major hotel brands directly.
Previously, HotelTonight had made agreements with individual hotel franchise owners.
HotelTonight CEO Sam Shank said these new deals will streamline the process of listing rooms on the app and enable the brands to negotiate lower fees on behalf of hotel owners.
Shank also expects these deals to double the number of hotels listed on the app to around 10,000, which "will help us add new cities, especially internationally," he said.
At the same time, it was announced that CEO of Starwood Capital Group Barry Sternlicht has privately invested an undisclosed amount in HotelTonight and will join the startup as an advisor.
