Budget hotel chain Travelodge has defended its decision to employ three women at its York property who have been convicted of murder.
The Sun newspaper revealed today that the Travelodge York on central Piccadily took on receptionist Pat Bulmer and room cleaners Linda White and Julie Richardson as part of a rehabilitation scheme.
Bulmer was imprisoned after colluding in the murder of her husband by her lover, Richardson battered her father to death and White stabbed her partner to death.
A spokesman for Travelodge said in the paper: “The workers from the rehabilitation programme are constantly assessed and have proven to be dedicated and hard-working individuals.
"They are motivated to make a better life for themselves and should be given every opportunity to succeed without prejudice.
"Travelodge does not discriminate and is a fair and progressive employer and has supported a number of employment schemes."
Bulmer and White are now out on licence and live in a probation hostel.
The three served their time at Askham Grange Prison outside York and while there applied to work at the Travelodge as part of a programme to enable prisoners who present no threat to ease themselves back into society.
