Hotel faces $600,000 smoking spat
A Rhode Island woman in Virginia who said she wanted a non-smoking area ended up suing an extended-stay hotel for $600,000 in damages.
The woman, Karen B. Nelligan, claimed she got a smoke-induced headache and faced a hostile hotel employee.
Ms Nelligan requested a non-smoking room when she checked into a Towneplace Suites by Marriott, said The Virginian-Pilot.
But the non-smoker said she woke up feeling sick and suffering from a headache the next day. She said she tried to get a clerk at the front desk to change her room, but that the employee locked the lobby door and refused to help.
The police were eventually called.
