Hotel honesty: How do you rate?
Travellers from Denmark have emerged as the most honest hotel guests in the world, while those from India, Mexico and Colombia admit to having the stickiest fingers, according to a survey that looked at who steals what.
Though the majority of the 8,600 international travellers polled by Hotels.com said they’ve never made off with items, apart from toiletries, 88% of Danish respondents said they leave their rooms as they found them.
New Zealanders (73% said they never take anything from the room) were slightly more honest than Australians (72%) in the poll.
Magazines and books, followed by linens and towels, are the most pocketed items from hotel rooms.
Chinese guests admitted to pinching furnishings and stashing everything from a lamp, clock or artwork in their suitcase.
Just 3% of respondents admitted to having taken a bathrobe and 1% stole the hotel pillow.
