Hub & Spoke: Central Florida
When Central Florida comes to mind, what pops up first? A set of round, black mouse ears, that’s what. A close second to that, of course, is overly hyperactive 5- to 8-year-olds trying to get a picture with Goofy. But to think that’s all there is would be a mistake– there is actually a plethora of activities available to groups who want to leave the grandbabies at home and just have a relaxing and invigorating vacation in Central Florida.
Let’s take a look at what’s been popping up in Mouseville’s backyard. Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, the second longest running Off-Broadway show, opened last winter at Pacino’s Italian Ristorante on Highway 192 in Kissimmee. The interactive show’s premise is that attendees are guests at a typical Italian-American wedding. Group pricing is available and comes with an Italian dinner buffet. The show will run seven nights a week at 7 p.m. Pacino’s will remain open and occupy the building’s first floor.
Blue Man Group, the wildly successful live entertainment experience, is coming to Universal Orlando Resort June 7. The act will permanently occupy a newly created live performance theater accessible from both Universal CityWalk and Universal Studios that holds 1,000 people. Known around the world for its fantastical percussion and quirky humor, this live stage show combines music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to pro-vide audiences with an outrageous and memorable experience.
Kissimmee’s newest thrill-seeking attraction, Fun Spot USA, opens its newest feature, a multi-level go-cart track, in June. Located next to Old Town, Fun Spot USA features the world’s tallest SkyCoaster, where guests can experience the thrill of hang gliding and skydiving at once; the world’s fastest G-Force drag racing that pits two racers against each other as they reach speeds of up to 110 mph in two seconds or less; and the Full Speed Race and Golf with six NASCAR simulators and an 18-hole indoor miniature golf course.
