About 100 miles east of Los Angeles there is a jog in the road and you see the towering San Jacinto Mountains and its passage opening the way to the vibrant, palm-studded desert oasis, glowing with blue skies and stylish living–a vacationer’s paradise. Welcome to the Coachella Valley, home to the Palm Springs’ desert resort communities with their 110 golf courses, 600 tennis courts, and 30,000 swimming pools.

This area is the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians who knew the area as “la palma de la mano de Dios”, the palm of God’s hand, and their ancient healing mineral waters continue to be a part of the Palm Springs success story.

Recognized around the world as a premier resort destination, the region offers visitors an abundant selection of resort complexes and spa services, recreation options, sightseeing, dining styles, shopping, full-service casinos, and several of the nation’s top annual festivals. It is also home to PGA’s Bob Hope Classic and the LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship.

There are nine communities in the Palm Springs resort region: Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs. This is a very easy area to maneuver and an ideal place for huband-spoke touring.

The weather is its finest during the winter months, spring and fall are popular shoulder seasons, and–no way around it–it’s hot in the summer. This is a very tour-friendly area, so plan to bring your group to the Palm Springs area and play with the “stars.”

Let Me Entertain You!

The shining stars of the ’20s and ’30s from the cinema, theatrical, and entertainment worlds were the first to claim Palm Springs as a vacation retreat for celebrities. Many, then and now, call the area home and throughout the area you see the names of resident “stars” who have contributed far more than their celebrity to the growth and well being of Palm Springs area. Some of the most prominent are Bob Hope, Fred Waring, Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, and Gene Autry. Palm Canyon Drive’s “Walk of Stars” celebrates 258 celebrities who have lived here. These include Elvis, Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Pickford, Al Jolson, Sophia Loren and Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
