Huge power cut ruins 2020 celebrations at UK holiday park
Staff at an Away Resorts UK holiday park have apologised to guests after an 18-hour power cut ruined New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The power went off at 5.45pm on New Year’s Eve at Tattershall Lakes Country Park in Lincolnshire, leaving guests with no light, heating or hot water.
At 18.50, guests were informed power was resuming slowly across the park and were asked to remain in their accommodation rather than head out to the main entertainment area.
By 10.20pm, Tattershall Lakes said the fault could not be rectified that evening. It added: "If you can, we suggest that you head home, should that be possible, so that you can be more comfortable this evening as there will be no power."
Just after New Year, at 12.15am, the park said it would update guests at 7am.
It added: "We wish you all the best for 2020 and we are sorry for the final day of 2019 not being what any of us would have wanted."
At 11.30am on New Year’s Day, the park posted: "Power is now restored to a lot of the park systems, but there will still be intermittent ‘ons’ and ‘offs’.
Hundreds of disappointed guests took to the site’s Facebook page to complain. One described the stay as an ‘absolute disaster from start to finish’.
The mum of two young children said: "We have no gas, no electric, no light, no warmth. I asked at reception for a torch or candles. They had nothing to give us. We are relying on quilts from the caravan and phone lights, until they run out of battery…What a disastrous night for all involved."
Another said: "Good advice telling people to travel home at 10.40pm on NYE."
