Huge Queensland golf resort project gets the green light
Luxury Thai hotel operator Dusit International has announced big plans for a multi-million-dollar golf and spa resort in southeast Queensland, and said all the necessary funding for the project is in place.
The hotel group will partner with Brookwater Resort Investments for a $550 million mixed-use resort in Springfield, and the site has already been granted approval by the Foreign Investment Review Board.
It will become the largest foreign investment golf resort in Australia yet.
Brookwater Resort Investments CEO Richard Turner said the site is an ideal fit for Dusit’s first Australian venture.
"They looked at Sydney and Melbourne, they looked at Perth, but nobody could provide the overall solution for them, but Springfield provided a master planned solution they couldn’t get anywhere else," Tuner said.
"They were looking for a premium golf community but it was essential they were 20 minutes from a central business district."
Brookwater was chosen due to proximity of Queensland’s number 1 ranked Greg Norman designed Brookwater Golf Course, opening up possibilities for hosting major golf and other sporting events leveraging Dusit’s proposed new amenities.
Built in multiple phases, the resort will offers serviced apartments, a convention centre, waterpark, international tennis stadium and a swimming and fitness centre.
Turner said there is a gap in the market for recreation and conference facilities in southeast Queensland.
He also believes the Dusit Devarana spa brand will prove popular with Australians.
Dusit operates resorts throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East and recently opened its first property in California.
In addition there are currently 31 properties under development in China.
