Huge surge in January travel website traffic
Hits to Expedia grew 60% to 6.6 million UK visitors in January compared to December, pushing it into the top 20 visited sites in the UK.
According to data collected by Networks, through its comScore World Metrix audience ratings service, all travel websites saw huge increases in traffic in January compared with December.
Bob Ivins, managing director of comScore Europe, said: “January has historically been the time to plan travel, and this seasonal
trend is now being borne out online, with many travel sites seeing their traffic more than double.”
Networks said visitors to MyTravel Group were up 169% to 3.3 million, Thomas Cook AG up 153% to 3.1 million, First Choice Holidays up 145% to 3 million, and TUI up 109% to 5.5 million visitors.
Meanwhile, Cheapflights saw a rise of 103% to 2.5 million visitors, Priceline.com was 73% to 2.4 million, EasyGroup 60%percent to 3.8 million, British Airways 50% to 3.4 million visitors, Lastminute.com 49% to 4.2 million, and Travelsupermarket.com rose 145% to 1.9 million visitors.
