Hundreds killed in Brazil nightclub fire
At least 232 have been killed in a Brazil nightclub fire allegedly started by fireworks during a band’s performance.
It has been reported that security guards tried to stop people leaving from an exit in the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria, southern Brazil, not realising a fire was sweeping through the building.
Sandro Meinerz, spokesman for the police in the city of Santa Maria, 550km from Porto Alegre, southern Brazil, told local media that the fire broke out at the Kiss club while a band was performing.
But he said the exact number of victims is still unknown.
Silva added that firefighters and ambulances responded quickly after the fire broke out, but that it spread too fast inside the packed club for them to help.
