Hundreds of flights canceled due to Boeing Max grounding
More than 300 flights were canceled Monday due to the grounding of Boeing 737 Max 9 planes in the Alaska Airlines and United Airlines’ fleets.
There were at least 138 Alaska Air flights scrapped, which amounts to about 20% of its schedule.
Another 170 flights were grounded on Sunday.
United has over 200 flights canceled today.
The two airlines are the two main customers for the Boeing 737 Max 9 type required to be grounded.
Alaska Airlines has a total of 65 737 Max 9 aircraft in its fleet.
It is still waiting for the go-ahead from the FAA to start inspecting the aircraft.
“While we await the airworthiness directive inspection criteria from the FAA and Boeing, our maintenance teams are ready,” the airline said.
Alaska said it expects that ‘cancellations will continue through the first half of the week.’
