Hundreds of women riders sue Uber for sexual assault
Uber is facing legal action by more than 500 women, alleging assault, rape and harassment by drivers
The filing details allegations by 550 women who ‘were kidnapped, sexually assaulted, sexually battered, raped, falsely imprisoned, stalked, harassed, or otherwise attacked by drivers’
The case was filed at the San Francisco County Superior Court this week.
The suit said at least another 150 cases are under active investigation.
“Sexual assault is a horrific crime and we take every single report seriously,” an Uber told the BBC.
The lawsuit claims Uber initially did little to address it by ‘prioritizing growth over customer safety’
According to Uber;s second US Safety Report, there were 998 sexual assault incidents in 2020.
