Hundreds stranded in the Bahamas
The argument that Nassau Airport be upgraded got another boost over the busy holiday season when hundreds of tourists were left stranded after a faulty radar system failed.
“Hotels in the Bahamas suffered a sharp drop in business and hundreds of tourists were left stranded,” said Airwise News.
A total of 26 flights were cancelled, while others were diverted to other areas.
At least 1,600 passengers were stranded.
“It couldn’t have happened at a worse time,” said Frank Comito, executive vice-chairman of the Bahamas Hotel Association.
Hotel owners in the Bahamas have long lobbied for an upgraded Nassau Airport.
