Hurricane Dean spares St. Lucia tourism area
Whatever other impacts it has, Hurricane Dean spared St. Lucia’s tourism infrastructure, according to tourist officials.
Airports in the north and the south of the island were open for business just after the Category 2 storm passed, said director of tourism Maria Fowell.
There were some losses of electricity over the weekend, but Ms Fowell said they have been restored.
She said some debris is being cleaned up.
Hoteliers reported no significant damage.
Said Ms Fowell:
“We’re thankful that the island is back to full operational capacity, due in part to the spirit of the St. Lucian people and the fact that the hurricane passed the island in its early stages.”
