Hyatt spurs Denver convention market
The opening of Denver’s convention headquarters hotel is helping unleash a new wave of downtown development.
“The opening of the Hyatt is having the biggest impact on the Denver hotel scene in a decade,” hotel consultant Michael Cahill told Meeting News.
Among new properties spurred by the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is a 221-room Hilton Garden Inn that started construction across the street from the Hyatt earlier this year.
Other new activities include a mixed use complex that would include a 230-room Four Seasons.
Luxury hotels on the drawing boards include a W property and a Ritz-Carlton.
Mr Cahill said downtown Denver until now was not realizing its potential as a meeting market because of the lack of hotels.
The new hotel convention center expects more than two thirds of its business will be tied to conventions.
