IATA critical of ‘knee-jerk’ Covid tests for Chinese travellers
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called out countries for re-imposing Covid tests.
Several countries are introducing testing and other measures for travellers from China.
“It is extremely disappointing to see this knee-jerk reinstatement of measures that have proven ineffective,” IATA chief Willie Walsh said.
“Research concluded that putting barriers in the way of travel made no difference to the peak spread of infections.”
At most, restrictions delayed that peak by a few days.”
China slammed Covid test requirements as ‘politically motivated.’
Several counties including India, the UK and US Covid tests.
The Chinese government warned it may retaliate.
“Governments should listen to the advice of experts. They must base their decisions on ‘science facts’ rather than ‘science politics’,” Walsh added.
