Icelandair doubling flight capacity at Tampa
Icelandair plans to double capacity at Tampa International Airport later this year.
It will increase service to four times a week, up from the current two weekly flights.
The change takes effect from September 2018.
"We’ve been seeing a great demand for these flights in the Tampa Bay area market. We will be not only increasing our service from Tampa but doubling it," said Michael Raucheisen, Icelandair North America marketing and PR manager.
It launched the inaugural flight from Tampa to Keflavik International Airport, near Reykjavik last September.
Icelandair flights connect to more than 25 European cities via Keflavik.
"It’s not just for leisure travelers and families. This opens up business and trade and foreign relations in both directions. Certainly in Iceland and Europe and in Tampa Bay," Raucheisen added.
Airport officials say the increase will directly benefit the area with an additional economic impact of $14.2 million.
