Icy storm decimates Dallas flight schedules

Sunday, 23 Feb, 2015 0

American Airlines has canceled close to 1,000 flights to and from its Dallas Fort Worth hub, ahead of an ice storm set to hit North Texas.

The carrier canceled 961 flights on mainline and regional routes as well as some US Airways flights, representing about half its daily schedule.

Flight tracking website Flightaware has 57% of departures and 47% of arrivals at DFW listed as canceled.

Driving sleet of up to several inches is expected in parts of North Texas and DFW airport officials are taking no chances.

Airport staff began pre-treating elevated surfaces and runways during the weekend, however just a handful of flights were confirmed as canceled at Dallas Love Field Airport.

American is waiving reissue fees for customers changing travel dates until February 25.
