IHG relaunches Regent luxury brand with KL signing
InterContinental Hotels Group has formally relaunched luxury brand Regent Hotels & Resorts.
IHG recently completed its acquisition of a majority stake in Regent, and has now signed its first Regent Hotels property in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
IHG says it has repositioned Regent’s brand identity for the modern luxury traveller based on consumer research and feedback from owners and industry experts.
"IHG shares our vision for the Regent brand. It’s been four months since IHG acquired a majority share in Regent Hotels & Resorts and we have already seen what can be achieved in a joint venture with one of the largest hotel companies," said Steven Pan, executive chairman of Regent parent, Formosa International Hotels Corporation.
IHG unveiled the new hotel in partnership with developer Multibay Development Sdn. Bhd.
Regent Kuala Lumpur will be situated next to Tun Razak Exchange, which is slated to become KL’s newest financial district and close to the city’s Golden Triangle commercial and entertainment hub.
IHG earlier this year announced plans to rebrand the InterContinental Hong Kong to a Regent by 2021.
The company hopes to expand the current Regent portfolio of six hotels to more than 40 globally.
