I’m dreaming of a hot Christmas
Hotels in Dubai are reportedly having specially-bred Christmas trees shipped to the country in order to decorate their lobbies and restaurants in the traditional British style.
According to the Daily Telegraph, more than 1,500 non-drop trees – which are less likely to shed their needles – are being sent out to the Gulf state.
The trees, which are stored for long periods at low temperatures, are being shipped out in refrigerated containers. The journey will take three weeks.
Anthony Andrews of Yorkshire Christmas Trees, the supplier, is quoted as saying: “No one believed that you could ship trees for that long and then put them in extreme conditions.
“They are normally cut in two or three weeks for the British market so they last into the new year, but we are sending them off now. They will survive well into January. If we cut them now in England, they would last until Easter without deteriorating.”
