Impressionist Treasures in Fort Worth
The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Tex., presents The Impressionists: Master Paintings from the Art Institute of Chicago through Nov. 2. Featuring 92 of the most celebrated works of the great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, the largest collection of such works ever to leave Chicago will be shown only at the Kimbell.
The show spotlights works by Manet, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Gaugin, Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec. There will be 26 Monet paintings, including six wheatstacks, four Thames River scenes and three of the water lily pond in his garden at Giverny. Five Van Goghs include Self-Portrait (1887) and The Bedroom (1889).
The crème de la crème of the Chicago museum’s world-famous Impressionist collection is on loan while its galleries are renovated during an expansion project that includes a new Modern Wing designed by Renzo Piano. The same architect recently was chosen by the Kimbell to design its own second building. (817-332-8451, www.kimbellart.org/impressionists)
