Inbound operators mostly confident about the year ahead
The majority of inbound tour operators and suppliers are positive about the year ahead, according to a survey by UKinbound.
A poll of its 250 members found 82% are confident about bookings over the next 12 months.
This comes after a fairly strong end to 2016, with 64% of members reporting a year-on-year growth in bookings and visitor numbers in November and December, with China the top inbound growth market.
But 28% said uncertainty about the UK’s future relationship with the EU is one of the biggest challenges currently affecting their businesses.
Attracting visitors from new markets and currency fluctuations were also identified as key areas of concern – 26% and 25% respectively.
"It is extremely encouraging to hear that our members remain confident about 2017, in spite of the uncertainty about the UK’s future relationship with the EU," said CEO Deirdre Wells OBE.
"However, these results highlight that more than ever, we need continued support from the Government to help us promote the UK as a welcoming destination and facilitate the growth of our industry.
"We will continue to put our members’ case to Government to ensure that we secure the best possible trading conditions for our industry post Brexit – in particular access to a highly skilled workforce, remaining part of the EU Open Skies Agreement and a smooth and welcoming reception for our visitors at the Border."
UKinbound celebrates its 40th anniversary at its Annual Convention in Plymouth this week.
It has revealed a new brand identity, designed ‘maintain the visual elements of British heritage’ while at the same time representing a ‘more modern, fresher approach’.
