Independence of the Seas – new Royal Caribbean mega ship
The third of Royal Caribbean International’s giant Freedom class ships will be named Independence of the Seas.
The last in the series of three 3,634-passenger vessels – the largest cruise ships in the world – is currently under construction and is due to enter service in May 2008.
The 160,000-ton ship will follow Liberty of the Seas, which is due to makes its debut in New York on May 3 next year, and Freedom of the Seas, which entered service in the Caribbean this summer.
Liberty will be running alternating seven-night Caribbean sailings from Miami from May 19, with Saturday departures, while Freedom will depart on Sundays.
Details of Independence itineraries have not yet been revealed. The line said the new ship would feature “new programmes and on board embellishments yet to be announced”.
