Independent hotels best for free and fast Wi-Fi
Travelers who value free and fast Wi-Fi above all else should opt to stay in independent hotels.
That is the conclusion from a survey carried out by HotelWiFi Test, a company which analyzes and tests hotel connectivity in almost 70 cities worldwide.
The research was based on two criteria – whether Wi-Fi is free and whether it is fast.
It found that overall, there is a slightly lower likelihood of independent hotels offering free Wi-Fi, but where it is available, is typically faster than several recognized hotel brands.
In contrast, the report singled out major brands Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Sheraton and Hilton as having a limited number of properties proportionally offering free Wi-Fi, or that connection speeds were slower than average.
Of the hotel chains analyzed, Choice Hotels’ Quality brand came out top.
It said budget chain Quality provided free Wi-Fi in over three-quarters of its hotels with average speeds faster than upscale hotel brands.
In total, the company assessed connectivity in 1,309 hotels across the nation.
