India air regulator orders safety audit of IndiGo
India’s civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a safety audit on the country’s largest carrier IndiGo.
It has issued show cause notices relating to multiple issues with Pratt & Whitney engines on its fleet of Airbus A320 neo aircraft.
According to local media reports show cause notices were sent to IndiGo’s chief operating officer and head of engineering by the DGCA.
IndiGo has faced numerous problems with P&W engines which have caused engine shutdowns mid-air, and has led to the grounding of some planes.
"There is currently a DGCA audit on IndiGo which is combined with the annual main base audit," IndiGo said in a statement.
The airline has ‘responded accordingly’ to the DGCA.
It is thought the special audit was ordered after lapses and errors in reporting incidents regarding engine issues.
The latest incident came just last week during a Delhi-Mumbai flight.
"We can confirm that IndiGo’s operation is run in even more stringent ways as prescribed by the regulatory framework.”
