Indian airports in security crackdown
Passengers taking flights from major international airports in India can expect long security queues later this month.
As part of a two-week crackdown coinciding with Republic Day on January 26, India’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has flagged that passengers’ cabin baggage will be manually checked.
Airlines have also been instructed to conduct secondary checks before passengers enter the aircraft. This will apply to all flights not just those to sensitive destinations.
Officials said manpower would be increased at Mumbai airports and combing operations would be carried out in car parks.
Airlines are advising their passengers to arrive at airports at least two hours before flight departure.
