Indian airports ordered to step up security
Indian airports are on high alert after reports that flights from Delhi to Afghanistan are being targeted by Al Qaeda and Islamic State extremists.
An anonymous call was received by Air India’s Kolkata office stating one of the airline’s planes would be hijacked.
Following the phone call, India’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has ordered airports to step up security.
Sky marshalls have now been put on flights in and out of the country, travellers are subject to increased security checks, more police officers are working outside the airport and commandos are patrolling the airport, The Times of India reports.
