Indian tourist beheaded by helicopter rotor blade in Nepal
An Indian tourist died in a horrific accident after walking into the rotor blade of a helicopter in Nepal.
The 42-year-old man stepped into the tail rotor and was beheaded.
The tragedy happened just after the Manang Air helicopter had landed at a remote helipad in Hilsa, a gateway for several pilgrimage sites in Tibet.
"He was hit on his head by the tail rotor after he got off from the helicopter and died on the spot," said district police chief Gahendra Bahadur Bogati.
Due to the terrain, Hilsa is only accessible by helicopter and other light aircraft but Nepal has a poor air safety record.
An unnamed pilot described Nepalese air safety standards as ‘nil.’
"There is stuff up there that is simply unsafe, particularly in terms of crowd control on the helipad," the pilot told AFP.
Hilsa is a popular gateway for mostly Indian religious tourists to Mount Kailash and other nearby pilgrimage sites.
