IndiGo announces Qatar Airways codeshare
India’s largest carrier by market share IndiGo has announced a codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways.
It will allow Qatar Airways customers to travel on IndiGo’s flights linking Doha with Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad by placing its ‘QR’ code on these services.
Sales are now live for codeshare flights which begin from 18 December 2019.
Qatar Airways currently operates more than 100 flights a week between Doha and destinations in India including Ahmedabad, Chennnai, Kochi and Kolkata.
"We are extremely proud to secure this strategic partnership with IndiGo, the largest airline in one of the world’s fastest growing aviation markets. We believe this agreement will be just the first step in strengthening our relationship," said Qatar Air chief Akbar al-Baker.
He said Qatar Air is still keen on making a financial stake in IndiGo but hinted that would not happen until a long-running dispute between IndiGo’s two founders is resolved.
"We very much look forward to working together to harness our complementary strengths and resources," al-Bakar added.
IndiGo chief executive officer Ronojoy Dutta said: "This strategic alliance will not only strengthen our international operations, but also boost economic growth in India."
