IndiGo meltdown: India dismisses flight op inspectors
India’s air regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended four flight operations inspectors in response to the IndiGo flight scheduling meltdown in the past few days.
India’s largest airline has cancelled thousands of flights over its inability to schedule sufficient pilot cover when new pilot duty restrictions came into force.
The inspectors are senior staff in charge of regulatory and safety oversight tasks.
“Contracts of these FOIs with the DGCA have been terminated in relation to the recent IndiGo crisis,” an DGCA spokesperson said.
IndiGo’s CEO has been in talks with the regulator to explain the problems and what the airline was doing to get it fixed.
“The four member DGCA committee summoned both COO and CEO separately with regard to the ongoing investigation,” an official said.
