IndiGo suspending Hong Kong flights
India’s biggest budget carrier IndiGo confirmed it will suspend Hong Kong flights from Kolkata early next month.
Months of disruption due to pro-democracy protests have taken their toll with travel demand to HK plunging.
It is still committed to the market and hopes to reinstate the flights as soon as possible.
It may also start Hong Kong flights from another city if it identifies sufficient demand.
"We are in the process of evaluating alternate route options between India and Hong Kong and IndiGo will start operations as soon as possible," the airline told news outlet CNBC-TV18.
The airline only launched daily flights to Hong Kong a couple of months ago, even as protests were in full swing.
Passengers with bookings for affected dates will receive a full refund or alternative travel options.
Protests in Hong Kong began in June and have seen no let-up despite successfully forcing the scrapping of an Extradition Law amendment.
Weekends of chaos has led to a huge drop in tourism with hotels less than half full and the key mainland China market for tours at a historic low.
