Indonesian ride hailing app Go-Jek confirms entry into Singapore
Indonesian ride hailing service Go-Jek is ready to take on its biggest rival in its own backyard.
Go-Jek’s long mulled move into Singapore will happen later this month, the company said.
It has sealed partnerships with half a dozen car rental companies in Singapore in readiness for its launch.
Go-Jek held back on its entry into Singapore as Singapore’s Competition and Consumer Commission investigated the Grab-Uber merger and ruled against it, citing several anti-competitive practises.
The CCS has since issued fines and ordered exclusivity agreements be shelved, allowing Go-Jek to enter the market.
"We are now confident that Singapore will have a robust, efficient and competitive market, and that our arrival will have a significantly positive impact on the lives of people in Singapore," Go-Jek said.
Rule changes now allow Go-Jek to recruit drivers from Grab and private hire taxi drivers can now work for more than one app.
Go-Jek recently entered the Vietnam market with the launch of Go-Viet.
It also aims to expand to Thailand and Philippines soon.
