Industry to provide crisis training
The Foreign Office has a good working relationship with the travel industry and will even involve the Federation of Tour Operators in its training, a report into the tsunami tragedy has said.
In its study into the handling of the crisis, the National Audit Office recognised how tour operators and FCO staff worked in tandem to evacuate UK holidaymakers.
Reports from both ABTA and the FTO also said they had “frequent contact and good working relations” with the FCO throughout the crisis.
“The FTO told us that the FCO response to the tsunami was significantly more efficient and effective than the responses to the 9/11 and Bali crisis has been, particularly in the updating of travel advice,” the report said.
“The FCO now plan to involve representatives from the FTO in its consular training.”
