Influencer platform Heepsy unveils European destinations that beat Paris and Rome this fall

Wednesday, 17 Sep, 2025 0
Over 350 million tourists visit Europe during the autumn months, seeking colorful landscapes and comfortable temperatures. The influencer platform Heepsy recently conducted a study to identify the best European places to visit in the fall.
The research evaluated destinations using several popularity factors, including Instagram (IG) hashtag counts, media coverage frequency, online search interest, and annual visitor numbers. The study also looked at average fall temperatures and finally ranked the destinations based on IG hashtag count.
Cities are giving way to destinations offering a blend of natural activities, beautiful landscaping and cultural appeal.
Here’s a look at Europe’s top 10 fall destinations:
The Lake District, England, ranks first as Europe’s best fall destination. This English region sees the highest 5.8 million Instagram hashtag count and attracts 18.11 million annual visitors. The Lake District has comfortable fall temperatures between 13-16°C and is often discussed in the media for its beautiful scenery.
The Alsace Wine Route in France takes second place, showing 4.3 million Instagram hashtags. The destination draws 7.7 million visitors every year who come to see its villages and taste local wine. During the fall, visitors can also enjoy mild temperatures here, ranging from 15-18°C.
Germany’s Black Forest is in third position among the best fall destinations. The place counts 4 million Instagram hashtags and is most frequently covered by media outlets (over 9 million mentions). Each year, 7.5 million visitors come to the Black Forest, which in the fall offers pleasant temperatures between 12-15°C.
The Dolomites in Italy hold fourth place with 3.8 million Instagram hashtags and 34 million annual visitors. This Italian mountain range, which records fall temperatures between 10-13°C, sparks great interest on the Internet, with people looking up more information about it more than 3M times each month.
The Rhine Gorge in Germany is the fifth-best European destination to visit in autumn. The wine region is frequently shared on social media, counting a total of 3.7 million IG hashtags. It also registers a bit cool but still pleasant temperatures for fall, ranging from 13 to 16°C.
Next up is the Loire Valley in France. This region, famous for its chateaux, sees nearly 3M Instagram hashtags. The place is visited by 8M tourists every year and offers one of the warmest climates with temperatures between 16-19°C.
The Cotswolds & Westonbirt Arboretum, England, take seventh place, getting 2.8 million Instagram hashtags. The destinations welcome the highest 35 million visitors annually, and also draw the biggest interest online, with people googling them almost 6 million times per month. These English regions also offer pleasant fall temperatures at around 14-17°C.
Sintra-Cascais Natural Park in Portugal lands in eighth position with 2.7 million Instagram hashtags. This Portuguese destination, known for its palaces set in Atlantic forests, offers the warmest fall climate (18-21°C) and hosts 3 million tourists each year.
Snowdonia, Wales, is in ninth place with 1.9 million IG hashtags. This national park, which can be great for autumn hiking, draws 10 million visitors annually. Fall temperatures here are also comfortable, between 12-15°C.
Spain’s La Rioja Wine Region completes the top 10 European destinations to visit in the fall. With around 1M tourists per year, the region collects 1.8M hashtags on Instagram. This Spanish destination offers pleasant temperatures (15-18°C) to explore the local vineyards during the fall.
“Fall is often overlooked in favor of summer or winter holidays, but it’s when Europe feels most authentic,” says Tabi Vicuña, Founder of Heepsy. “Villages are quieter, prices are lower, and cultural life picks up with festivals and food events. Do not forget that it’s also the harvest season across the continent: wine in Spain and France, truffles in Italy, chestnuts in Portugal. Pair that with cozy evenings in centuries-old towns, and you get a travel experience that can’t be replicated in summer.”
