Inns ‘in’ for business travelers

Sunday, 24 Aug, 2006 0

A growing trend for business travelers is to reject hotels in favor of B&B’s, according to several new reports.

B&B’s with only a handful of rooms help create a more peaceful atmosphere leaving the office away from home.

“After long hours in business meetings, travelers like to come home and relax on a rocking chair on our front porch with a cold iced tea,” said Barb Vogel at Sea Crest by the Sea in Spring Lake, NJ, which is the site of several historic inns.

She said the inn’s early bird continental breakfast and candlelit gourmet meals bring back repeat business travelers.

Inns are also beefing up their services and catering to business travelers by adding wireless internet and other business-like amenities, according to Beth Graham, who does public relations for B&B’s.

Inns are also starting to offer preferred rates to business travelers. Some estimates are that corporate travelers can account for as much as half of the revenue for many inns.

Inns are also expanding their offerings to small business conferences or board meetings or corporate retreats often rent an entire B&B.

Some inns are adding more conference space.
