Iranian aircraft crashes in Sharjah
An Iranian plane has reportedly crashed as it landed at Sharjah airport in the United Arab Emirates. More than 50 people are believed to have been aboard the Kish Air plane, though there are some reports of survivors. According to the online news provider Ananova, reports on Sharjah television have showed the burning wreckage of the plane, with rescue helicopters arriving at the scene. The plane was reportedly returning from Kish Island, a designated free-trade zone that Iran is trying to promote as a tourist destination. Reuters news agency quotes an official from the semi-private Kish Airline as saying that the plane was a Dutch-made Fokker-50, a twin-engined turboprop plane that can carry 50 passengers and six crew.
