Irish for the day this Friday
If you live in Sydney you can start St Patrick’s Day, the Irish Way right in the middle of Sydney in Martin Place, this Friday 16th March
Monica Nerney, Tourism Ireland’s head leprachaun in Sydney says that while she is aware that it is a day early she and her team wanted to give Sydneysiders plenty of time to start celebrating St Patrick’s Day.
Enjoyed across the globe, St. Patrick’s Day is 17th March and is Ireland’s National feast day and a day when everybody wants to be Irish, but you can be one day ahead with with Tourism Ireland at Martin Place, on Friday 16th March.
Experience what Ireland is all about at the Irish Village and it is a sure to be sure Celtic affair with leprechauns, Shamrocks, Irish wenches……..and you never know who you will come across!!
Watch out for U2 look-a-likes, Molly Malone and even James Joyce………!
Come visit the ‘authentic’ Irish pub at the heart of the village……….!

Kicking off at 6.30am on this Friday, the Irish village will come alive with a ‘trad’ session (traditional) and you can enjoy the pulsating vibe of the bodhran with Kevin Kelly and his band.
Enjoy the breath-taking performances by fantastic Irish dancers and a number of ex-Riverdance performers will wow you with their speed and grace.
At lunch-time enjoy the musical genius of Blackwater, one of Australia’s top Irish bands and Gget involved in the ‘Ceili’ (Irish dancing with audience participation) and practice your own jigs!
Catch a glimpse of the 30ft Irish ‘Currach’ specially transported from Ireland, with the Currach a part of Ireland’s maritime history, a lightweight traditional Irish boat it was designed to withstand very rough seas that are typical of islands off the coast of Ireland.
Come and sample traditional soda bread or ‘brown bread’ with tasty Irish-made cheese and there may even be an Irish beverage on offer here or there!
