Istanbul hotels hit by bomb blasts
Two bombs have reportedly exploded in the Turkish city of Istanbul, with two hotels being hit by the blasts.
According to the BBC News website, two people were killed and at least seven seriously injured in the explosions, which took place early on Tuesday. One of the bombs went off in the historic Sultanahmet area of the city, while the other was in the Laleli suburb.
The BBC quotes the city’s police chief, Celalettin Cerrah, as saying: “It appears to be a terrorist attack.”
Istanbul has seen several other attacks in recent months – 60 people were killed in four suicide bombings last November – and the city has been on a high alert since it hosted a Nato summit in June.
