It’s all about diversitry, Rzymowska tells AWTE
Diversity of age, gender and experience is what makes a successful business – not gender quotas for the board.
That’s according to Jo Rzymowska, associate vice president and general manager of Royal Caribbean International, who was addressing the Association of Women Travel Executive’s (AWTE) Sunset Cruise, sponsored by Teletext Holidays.
“I feel strongly that women should earn their way onto the board, rather than through quotas. It’s not about how many women or men there are but about the diversity of the team.
"Too much of one thing isn’t good for you. Diversity of team, age, experience and new blood – that’s what makes a business.”
She added: “There are lots of women in senior roles in cruise. Being a woman hasn’t hindered or helped me. Age and gender don’t matter. It depends how valuable you are to the company you work for.”
AWTE chair Karen Ramirez said: “As an association, we’re working to support women in helping them with the tools to progress up the ranks and secure board-level roles on merit, not because of quotas.
"We’re also working to encourage more women to take to the podium and put themselves forward at conferences and events. Jo Rzymowska has certainly showed us how it’s done.”
